A Place to Pause

I photographed Kyiv’s Pedestrian Bridge and its surroundings between June 2025 and October 2026. The red railings recur in many of the photographs, while the people, light and activity change.

A cyclist looks over at people preparing for a rope jump. Others take photographs or stop by the railing. Workers repaint the bridge. Below, someone swims with an orange buoy, boats pass, and people sit or fish along the beach. By evening, a couple stands watching the river.

The bridge connects the city centre with Trukhaniv Island, but it is also a place where people spend time. Some arrive together; others briefly share a view or watch the same thing. These ordinary uses are what interested me in the bridge as a third place: somewhere to be among other people, with room to stop and look.
